LEARN ABOUT IPDLN

The International Population Data Linkage Network (IPDLN) was founded in 2007 to facilitate the exchange of ideas and methods about data linkage. IPDLN hosts a biennial conference that convenes researchers and practitioners to share the latest advances and best practices for linking population-level datasets. In 2008, 30+ participants from Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand attended the inaugural meeting of the IPDLN (then known as the IHDLN), held in London, UK and hosted by the Research and Development Directorate of the National Health Service. Since then, the IPDLN has grown to over 1,700 members from all over the world.

The creation of the International Journal of Population Data Science (IJPDS) was inspired by IPDLN. The journal has a regular section for topics of particular interest to the IPDLN.

WHAT IS DATA LINKAGE?

Data linkage is the connection of information from various sources about specific entities or people. By linking records related to health, education, environment, or other factors, a broader understanding of the big picture can be gained. The resulting insights can then inform research and policy recommendations related to overall population health and wellbeing.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Data linkage is an invaluable tool for research. It provides an inclusive and detailed picture of the population, is cost-effective relative to other data collection mechanisms. It enables studies that could not otherwise be performed.

WHAT IS THE NETWORK'S ROLE?

The International Population Data Linkage Network (IPDLN) creates a space for discussion and learning within the data linkage community, sharing methods and findings that result from using population-wide data.
