CHICAGO EVENTS & FESTIVALS 

Snow or sun, weeknight or weekend, there is always a local Chicago experience to be had. The city’s diverse, infectious spirit is sure to provide an excuse for you to hop on the train, call a car (or water taxi!), and check out a different part of the Windy City. 

Here are a few events happening directly before or after the 2024 IPDLN Conference. Check them out and get a head start on your extended-stay itinerary: 

  • September 12-15: Chicago Jazz Getaway | Also held at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, where they play their Friday & Saturday concerts in the International Ballroom. 

  • September 13-15: Grito Fest Chicago | The event takes place in Chicago’s Grant Park – come join the celebration of Mexican Independence Day in downtown’s most famous park. 

  • September 20-22: Riot Fest | For the fans of hard rock. 2024 lineup TBA, but past headliners include Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Blink-182, and many more big names! 

  • September 20-29: World Music Festival Chicago | This annual features both free and ticketed shows with international and local artists performing global music across venues throughout the city. 

  • TBA: Maxwell Street Market | This market is open seasonally, with an exact schedule yet to be announced. Maxwell Street Market is a Chicago institution with a mix of crafts, housewares and clothing, live music, and legendary street food. 

  • Not to mention, during September, local sports teams such as the Chicago Cubs (baseball), Chicago White Sox (baseball), Chicago Bears (American football), and Chicago Fire (soccer) are in season with varying schedules for home games. Games already scheduled are below: 

    • The Chicago White Sox host the Cleveland Guardians & Washington Nationals at Guaranteed Rate Field from September 9-15. 

    • The Chicago Cubs host the Oakland Athletics & Washington Nationals at legendary Wrigley Field from September 16-22. 

    • The Chicago Fire host home games on 9/7, 9/14, and 9/28 at the historic Soldier Field.
